In like a lion, out like a lamb.
I’ve been finishing up another pattern submission for the ever-impressive Knitty in hopes that it will be picked up for the summer issue. This morning I was able to look over the pattern that will be featured in the upcoming Spring issue (any day now, I hope) and it looks great IMHO. I just love Knitty. You want to talk about a confidence booster…I’m so excited really. Can you tell? I would love more than anything to join the ranks of the many talented indie designers. I have days where the ideas are there and the math actually works. These are the really good days. And then there are some where I cannot even pick up my notebook and when I do 2+2 does not even come close to equalling 4. Those are the days when I second guess myself. Y’know, “You are aiming too high girl, you can knit…so knit other people’s designs and quit trying to think you can make your own”, but then I get a lovely email from Amy saying they want to use my pattern. Yea! It’s as if the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, or maybe Glenda the good witch…I’m not sure, says to me “Dorothy, you’ve always had the power to design patterns, but you wouldn’t have believed me, if you didn’t learn it for yourself.” So my lesson for today comes directly from Dorothy: If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with! On that note, I will share with you the realization that I am getting up there in years. This month (March 12th) I will turn thirty which I realize is horrifying to some, but cool for me. I think I actually qualify as a real adult despite the fact that I don’t feel like one. I remember when my mom turned thirty for Chrissakes, and she seemed so, I don’t know…mature. I sometimes still feel like I’m in high school trying to figure everything out. But time is creeping up on me. Case in point: Last night DH and I were watching Black Hawk Down which took place in 1992. We were sophomores in high school. What the hell, that was fourteen years ago! How is that possible? It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long. This month I will also celebrate my seventh wedding anniversay. It does not seem like we’ve been married for so long, and we dated for 4 years prior to getting married so I’ve known my DH for 11 years. Hoo boy that’s a while, but I still love him which is always a plus. This is such a positive post, y’all are going to wonder what I’m on. I’ve been sniffing yarn again. really, it’s March. I just adore this particular month of the year. The smell of freshly cut grass, the birthday cake and presents (yarn related I hope), St. Paddy’s Day, the cool weather we rarely get to enjoy here in Texas, and the green. I love green. Come to think of it, it’s probably one of my fave colors, so in honor of My favorite month I give you the greeny goodness known as Shamrock.
Knitpicks Shamrock in Dougherty. Isn’t this stuff gorgeous and sooo very Irish. The greenyness won out over the Fitzpatrick which looks to be ivory with tan and grey accents. I really like this yarn, and it knits up lovely (see, I do swatch sometimes).
My closet is suffering post-partum depression (as is my figure), and is in need of some serious re-vamping if you know what I mean. As I love jackets and layering things, I am working to accumulate many. So, I ordered this with the intention of knitting the Emma jacket, but now I’m not so sure. The more I look at the pattern, the less I’m sure about it. I would have to add a collar on the neck part (Think blazer), and the sleeves are a little too snug I think. We wouldn’t want to add to the “sausage in a casing” look if we can help it. Plus, this pattern has a crapload of math involved. If I decide to do it, and add mods, then I am going to have to triple check my work, because we all now how math retarded I can be.
The other way to go is to knit the Sunrise circle jacket by the ever so talented Kate Gilbert. I’ve seen alot of these finished up and they look pretty cute. I was originally worried that it would’nt flatter a my curvy swervy figure, but since that too is about to be under construction, I’m not going to stress over it. If I don’t like it for me I can always give it to someone I do like. So tell me what you think, help me decide, and I’ll pick another lucky reader from the comments to receive something from my etsy shop. If your email address isn’t available through blogger leave it in the comments or email me with it so I can reach you if you win.

Sunrise Circle! In the green! Yesssss! And happy b-day. while I am at that (ahem) certain age which we don’t divulge, I can tell you that I have had the same thoughts and feelings about getting older and still feeling like a teenager and looking forward to maturing and thinking my mom was SO OLD when she was in her 30’s, then 40’s, then well, you know. Then she was old. Glad you’re posting again. Have a lovely, greeny March!

Oops, I forgot to congratulate you on your pattern in Knitty. I hope it’s a scarf so maybe it will be easy enough for me to knit, haha.
