Ho hum

Hard CopiesSeptember…I can’t believe it is already here! It has a way of creeping up and is always such a busy month for me. On the design front I have been busy getting Nottingham patterns printed which can soon be found in stores selling Shokay. One pattern is in the testing phase and I’m typing another up which is getting ready to be tested. On the home front we are planning on some remodeling projects, Ladybug’s and my grandmother’s birthday are 2 days apart. My best friend and one of her 2 girls also have birthdays the same week, so I had better get to birthday shopping, and  we should be doing some heavy partying in the coming weeks.

That said, I need to order Ladybug’s cake–she’s on an Ariel kick so we’ll be dining on the little mermaid come the 19th. I feel a bit guilty though…I have always baked and decorated our b’day cakes, but last year I caved in and ordered one. At 8 months pregnant the idea of me fussing with decorating bags was not a pleasant idea, and considering that I was mean-psycho-pregnant lady for 9 whole months, nobody complained. I could technically do both of the girls cakes and I will if my cake lady is already booked up (happens a lot lately), but the problem is that I am a perfectionist so slapping some icing on a Betty Crocker doesn’t really do it for me. I have to go all out which means planning, and icing colors, and decorating tips which basically equals a PITA unless of course I am in the mood which lately I’ll admit I am not. So tomorrow I’ll call the cake lady and let her schedule be the verdict.

Scarf in Verde AquaBy this time of year I am literally dying for Autumn to be in full swing so it is time to pull out my fall leaves, pumpkins and wreaths. I should probably start searching for my candied apple recipe, and man am I ready for a cold front. I was out running errands the day before yesterday and there was a breeze which is a really big deal in my neck of the woods. This little corner of Texas is likely to stay still, humid, and sweltering until sometime in late October, possibly even November. Of course this doesn’t deter me from knitting all the winter accessories. I have always knit Ladybug a scarf & hat set for each winter. When she was smaller it was a necessity to accommodate her growing noggin, but it has become a little tradition that I hope to keep up for both girls for many years to come. This year I am planning to add a fall jacket to each of their ensembles.

Knitpicks WOTA in Tidepool HeatherThe yarn arrived last week and I was able to whip out a so-called scarf for Ladybug this weekend. I cast on for a matching hat but have been too busy to really work on it. I went with my favorite handpaintedyarn.com colonia wool in Verde aqua for her scarf and hat, and she chose WOTA from Knitpicks in tide-pool heather for her little EZ bog jacket which I cannot wait to start.

The color she picked is really very pretty. I wouldn’t mind making myself something out of it.

Nayades and IrisCupcake is getting a baby surprise or baby bog (I haven’t decided) in the handpaintedyarn.com Handspun bulky. The color used to be brisas, but was recently changed to Nayades which, get this… means naiads or water sprite, such as the Nereid. Funny co-inkydink, no? For her hat scarf or whatever I’m using KP Merino style in the iris shade. It is far less electric in person and actually matches the purple in the hand-spun perfectly.

I can’t wait to see the girls all bundled up in their winter wear!

I too am so looking forward to fall. We had a little fall preview at the beginning of the week but now sadly we’re back to hot and humid. Cute scarf and I love the color your daughter picked out for her jacket!

Yeah! Those printed patterns look awesome :)
I’m so in the mood for fall now too - still hot here in NC as well, though hopefully we’ll get a reprieve next week. Your winter wear sets for the girls sound perfect!

I am so ready for fall. It would just be nice to have some rain. Sounds like you have some good knitting plans. All the yarns are so pretty. Hope that your cake lady is available.

I just called her and she’ll be away for 2 weeks so no cake. Oh well, I’m off to order an Ariel pan!

I love the idea of your fall tradition of making hat and scarf sets for the girls. :) I did that when my boys were small, too. I remember one year one set was bright, and I mean bright, red, and the other bright yellow. I could see them out playing in the snow, even if they were at the other end of the crescent! Ladybug has great colour sense. She’ll be knitting, too, before we know it. :O) samm

I really hope both the girls develop an interest. Ladybug has attempted it a few times, but her attention span is still too short I think.

the big gurl is interested in knitting but her mother has not the patience to teach her.
