I’ve been a royal pain…
I like to think that I am am the first to admit it when I am acting less than lovely- attitude wise. I am not often given to bad moods so it royally sucks when I’m feeling bleh. So for the last two weeks It has been thunder storming, which I normally love but am beginning to blame for my sour disposition. On top of that, Memphis (neurotic but sweet Golden retriever) is deathly afraid of thunder and fireworks. He hides wherever he can. I have had to move yarn baskets to accommodate him, and twice he has bolted past the shut door into the baby’s room in order to hide under her bed which has woken her up both times, so as you can imagine I am in a constant state of irritation with him over that. If he weren’t so pathetic I might stay angry.
It all started with Ladybug’s very matter of fact announcement that she was bored and when was school going to start? Well I can hardly blame the kid–it’s too wet to play outside, she can’t go swimming, and she’s tired of every toy she owns which seems impossible considering the size of this kid’s toy stash, but evidence says she is in fact bored stiff.
Well our first glimmer of something fun was an invitation that arrived from T & T (twin boys) for a water slide party on the fourth. We were all geared up to go and we waited and waited, but it rained all day, so no go. She was disappointed and I promised that the next day we would go to a movie to ease the sting of the missed water slide fun.
So yesterday my mom, Ladybug, Cupcake and I ventured to the nearest Starplex to see Ratatouille. Let me just say that what I saw of the first hour was cute. We bought our tickets and walked in. Ladybug was able to sit with one of her school friends so she was a happy camper. I dressed in capris and a 3/4 sleeve cotton peasant blouse because I always end up freezing in movie theaters and with all of Cupcake’s crap that needs to be hauled there and back I didn’t want to have to add a shawl to my load. So we go into a packed theater (nothing else to do on a rainy day I guess) and I drag the baby, her car seat, and her mondo diaper bag with me. By the time we climb up the stairs to our seats I am sweating. Cupcake clearly wants a bottle as the previews begin and I am certain that since it is her nap time she will go to sleep. Doesn’t happen. Instead I spend the next hour wrestling with her, giving her another bottle and of course sweating my tail off. So I finally decide to give up. Cupcake and I waited the remaining 30 or 40 minutes in the lobby while the movie finished. This was her second strike. Granted, I only missed the last 15 minutes of Shrek 3, but still. I don’t think we’ll be trying for a strike 3.
So today is another rainy day and I’ve been sporadically knitting on my Hey Mickey for Shokay. I should have been done with this ages ago. I am feeling like such a loser. Both of the other 2 were completed in a weekend, but as I’ve said I wasn’t knitting them without my mojo so this is all I’ve done. You’ll notice that the only ends that could not be knit in are the green ones hanging from the lower edge. Due to the nature of the pleats everything else can be knit in without creating unsightly bulges and I highly recommend it over weaving in all those bloody ends. My way is much easier!
and since it is Yarn PrOn Friday and I missed last week (I’m gonna’ get kicked out if I don’t start keeping up with what day of the week it is)I give you the last of my Shokay colors:
Shokay Shambala in Regal
100% pure yak down yarn
100g / 164 yds, 6 ply
knits up to 4 stitches/inch
suggested needle size: US 9 (5.5mm)
–I like it on 8’s
This regal is a very grown up purple. Our home team is a vibrant bright sort of purple…Go Wildcats!..and as I am not inclined to that particular shade I think I will reserve some of this for a nice cardi or hoodie I can wear to support the locals without looking so neon.
This last color is nocturne which as you guessed (you’re so smart) is a basic black. I love wearing black things but we all know how I feel about knitting with black, which is of course why every family member I have always seems to request hand knits in that cursed color. At least it is soft as a baby kitten to work with.

and last but not least is this package I got from Nicole (such a sweetie) of Nicole’s Knits and quirks. She sent me a leopard steering wheel cover, a knitting charm, some lovely leopard ribbon, kitty stickers for Ladybug (which are already adorning some artwork on the fridge) and a teensy lamb for Cupcake. I have to admit that this did cheer me up quite a bit. Thanks Nicole! Nicole is getting ready for her wedding and I hope she has the most beautiful day.
Okay if you’ve read this far then I’m glad you stuck around for my longer than usual post. I’m doing what I can to snap outta’ this blah funk I’ve been in. Maybe next post I’ll be done with Mickey, but now I’ve gotta’ run…I hear Cupcake in the dog’s water bowl…AGAIN…GAH!

Yeah, fruity drinks with umbrellas in them also work.

My mom still reminds me of the two movies she missed because I was crying and she had to be outside with me…

I’m glad that my little suprise was able to cheer you up! It took a little longer to find some of the things I was looking for to send you — Leopard print is not too popular around here. Hope you have a great weekend.

Can your Hubby watch the girls while you go out to treat yourself to something lovely? Food, clothes, drinks, yarn, sleep, a night alone in a hotel… With everything going on, maybe you need a short break to clear your head. I can’t imagine being cooped up for 2 rainy weeks in the summer with bored kids and a scaredy dog.
It WILL get better!

Girl, you must be my funk sister…
Come on over (we have plenty of thunderstorms here, too) for a day of relaxation… Fun at the department store, and a glass (or two) of good German wine will be on me!

Having just come back from 4 days of childless ness, I can say that I know how you are feeling. It was little more than sleeping, knitting, watching CSI and well just visiting a bit. Nothing crazy. I was so happy to see the gurlz when it was all over yet, I coldn’t believe how nice it was to go into a clothing store and not have to worry about where they were.
I can’t take the big one to the movies at all, so I feel your pain.
I can only suggest setting aside all the have to dos and stuff and doing something you want too - even if its only for an hour.

Rainy stormy weather funks me out too, friend. I get silent migraines which means that I wander around feeling like something is wrong but not knowing quite what. :0( I finished the scarf and toque today and have begun a scarf “just like this one” for the seven year old dgs who also wants to learn to knit. He was fascinated and really wanted a scarf like the one he saw me knitting. Gotta love him eh? :O) Then, a Mickey for the granddaughter, I hope! I read the pattern through today, and looked a the stash, which is across the room which is so full I can’t walk on the floor! Hubby is making new shelves soon, thank goodness. I feel for poor Memphis, and Sianidh sends her understanding too. She’s a scaredy pup too. Hope the funky feeling has passed now! samm
