Christmas Cheer and Gluttony
I’m happy to report that I had a nice Christmas and I hope you all did as well. We did our usual Christmas festivities and even managed to hit some of the next day sales with both kids in tow. That is an adventure that is best left out of today’s blog fodder and one that isn’t likely to be repeated next year.
I have been swatching a lot lately to play with some new pattern ideas and I’m not really sure which I’d like to tackle next. I spent my holiday time knitting myself a fabulous glitzy and furry garter stitch scarf. It wasn’t exactly challenging, but it sure was a lot of fun and it was done in two short afternoon knitting sessions! It is basically the same principle as the Coney Island fireworks scarf from stitch and bitch. Different yarns, different gauge, different dimensions.
I decided it was high time to whip me up a scarf because I noticed something funny while mom and I were out doing our last minute midnight shopping excursions. Somehow, despite having spent the last four years as a knitter I don’t have a single scarf, winter hat, or gloves or mittens to my name. I’ve purchased the yarn for these items specifically for me numerous times, but I manage to knit them and then someone I love reeeally loves said item which causes me to gift it. At least there is the satisfaction of keeping all my people warm right?
Consequently I have come face to face with the fact that I’m a novelty yarn glutton, but I guess I should clarify that it has to be the right kind of novelty to satisfy my high standards. Softness is a must, silkiness or sheen is definitely a bonus, and if it sparkles you know I’m like a squirrel with a shiny object. So if you’re opposed to fun fur I can hardly blame you, it is more hairy than furry and that as far as I know is never really attractive, but some of the novelties out there really are fun. I never would have thought it possible, but considering the way I horde every spare ball of that furry dollar spot Target yarn that I come across, should we really be surprised?
So, I really love this Moda Dea Frivolous yarn because the little touch of lurex sparkle is just the right amount of bling buried beneath all that soft furriness. And less face it folks, if less is more then more is better. When I first bought this yarn I also picked up the teal, black, and purple colorways, but I liked this scarf so much I went back after Christmas and was happy to find the gold, bronze, coral, and tropical colorways that I left behind last time. That said, you shouldn’t be surprised if more of these Muppet-worthy creations appear here from time to time. There just to Zsa Zsa not to love.

Thank you so much for the card. With all the craziness that was our life in December, we didn’t get to send out any. I too don’t own any winter items because I have only knit for others. I have half a pair of mittens made for me and plans for a hat but right now I really need something to keep my neck warm. I think the next thing on the list will be a scarf or some sort of neck wamer for me.
Have a great weekend.
