An azure sky…
It’s like I woke up today and realized, Holy Crap it’s already Friday. Life has been flying by lately. Ladybug is getting ready for her first ballet recital so we have been busy with rehearsals, pictures and all that fun stuff that goes with little girls taking dance. I have yet to bring my knitting to rehearsals. Cupcake came with us in the beginning and though rehearsals consist of a gym filled with the dancers from thirty some odd routines, their moms and/or dads, and their twerpy little brothers who as boys do, insist on running up and down the bleachers. Cupcake is just about to reach the 8 month mark which is code for ‘into everything’. So after one evening of figting her squirming to get down and crawl, I decided she was better off at home with dad. Tonight is a technical rehearsal at the auditorium so we’ll see how my girl does. I keep waiting for her to freak out at all the people, but so far she’s done well–knock on wood. She isn’t too thrilled with the idea of wearing her hair in a bun–have I ever mentioned her anti hairdo attitude? As you can imagine, this makes the idea of wearing a gigantic bow on top of that bun utterly repulsive to her mind, but seriously who can blame her. I also had resort to extortion to get her to wear makeup for her pictures and the mini-dress rehearsal, but I’m sure her tune will change in a few years.
So tonight I take my knitting and I can’t wait to see how quickly the cliquey moms begin to give me the evil eye. I seriously don’t expect any, “Hey, you can knit…cool!” responses from the stage moms, but we’ll see. I can guarantee that when this weekend is over all I’m gonna’ wanna’ do is this…
and onto part 4 of 11 of the yak yarn:
Shokay Shambala in Azure
100% pure yak down yarn
100g / 164 yds, 6 ply
knits up to 4 stitches/inch
suggested needle size: US 9 (5.5mm)
–I like it on 8’s–
This picture is a little brighter and true-bluer than the yarn. It is the most gorgeous turquoise I’ve ever seen. It came at the perfect time to help me get over my distaste of all things blue. I can’t wait to turn this into something lovely.
Azure seems to be the word poets embrace to describe the skies of a perfect day or water of the deep ocean and this color is no let down from that standard.

Ahhhh! I NEED that yarn! What a lovely color. Blue is good.
The stage moms are just jealous, if anything - how “high school” does that sound? But really. A cool, hip mom who knits? I wanna be in your clique!
Now back to that yarn. My rosewood 8s are screaming over here.

I just had the same thing happen to me. Aaaah, Friday! There’s still so much that needs to be finished! Why do I have tendinitis right now? Why is that yarn so gorgeous? Why do I want it so badly?
Life is very confusing right now.

It’s funny. I have never had a problem bringing my crafting with me (unless it is too big) You and Wendy (of knit and tonic) have both made statements about the strange looks people give or the comments. I took it to ballet at least half the time and they were interested -(or not) but didn’t say anything negative. I have to admit that I don’t care what they say or do. It’s my life and unless you are allergic to what I am doing - i mean really allergic. Forget about it!!!

Ah! I remember cliquey stage mothers. I was so glad when Offspring decided dance was not for her.
I love that yarn!

That’s beautiful yarn. Blues of most sorts are my favorites: to wear, to knit with….. :0) Don’t worry about the critical folk. It’s not very adult to make comments like they do is it. It truly is their problem if they have to make the comments, and just why would anyone have to do that!? There are still those in the world who think knitters are grandmotherly and unexciting people. None of them were around when I went to see Stephanie Pearl-McPhee!!! They’d have seen the screaming laughing rowdy crowd we knitters can be! Keep on knittin’ friend! AT the end of the waiting for dancers, you’ll have something to show for your time! samm
