I was runnin’…
Don’t you just love the Gump-age of it all? Well, September has always had a way of running away with me and this year is no exception. My younger brother moved to California over the weekend. We are sad that he’s not so close, but so happy that he has found his place in the world. He also has a wonderful person in his life that we have all fallen in love with as well. So the girls and I have been spending extra time with mom so we can all keep the sadness of missing him at bay. With all the birthday preparations and so forth we have stayed busy. Today we spent our last day at the beach for the year probably. The girls had a blast, Mom and I were utterly exhausted, and the laundry got to spend another day lounging on the couch.
Ladybug loves her new basic hat & so called scarf. Tomorrow is her 5th birthday! We are having a cupcake party at school, then dinner at her fave Italian restaurant with the family, and then home for cake and presents. She’s getting mostly Bratz, Barbie, and art stuff, and I have a confession to make. I did buy that Ariel cake pan, but yesterday while I was at the store buying cake mixes and what-not we stopped by a bakery for a cake for my Grandmother (the one who inspired my fiber love) who celebrated her birthday on Monday. They do an Ariel cake there that was very sweet so I caved. I’m so happy that I don’t have to spend tomorrow baking and decorating a cake which of course makes me feel like a horrible mom.
On the knitting front I have a few things going. I also started her bog jacket. Since green is the new pink it is being done in tide-pool heather which is actually very pretty. I’m trying to talk her into a contrasting color for the icord trim since she very stubbornly opted for the solid jacket. I have decided to incorporate all of EZ’s options except the short rows to curve the back. I’m thinking I’m actually going to want one of these for myself. The pattern that is in the testing phase is just about ready, and if I would make a few minutes to finish typing up the next one it will be going to the testers soon. It is the beaded, opal grey, DK weight wool project in case you’ve forgotten.

Yay! You’re back! I love the colour of the scarf and hat and the bog jacket too. :O) I must look up that pattern! Maybe I have it in one of the EZ books….. I don’t believe for a moment that you are a horrible mom. A practical one for sure!!! Not having to bake and decorate means more knitting time! Go for it! sammmmmmmm

Happy Birthday to Ladybug! Give her a big hug and kiss from Auntie Darla!
Making your daughter’s birthday cake is not what makes you a good mom! You are a great mom and who really cares if you bought or made the cake; besides all kids really want is the icing and store bought cakes are very generous with the icing.
Also, the hat and scarf look great! I need to get the ball rolling and get my girlies their own too.

Spending the time with your gurlz is more important than homemade cake.

Typically, I just lurk, but wanted to offer my condolences on losing (proximity to) your brother. I’m in North Texas (DFW) and my sister moved to L.A. in 2006. There are many, many worse things in the world, but it still sucks lemons. On the brighter side, CA is lovely to visit!
