Third time’s a charm
My first version of Hey Mickey sat around the house for a good six months before I decided to submit it to Knitty. I was never in love with that bright fuchsia, but Ladybug liked it at the time.
I knit the second version for the same Knitty submission after I realized I could incorporate more than one color. Again the colors were not my idea. They derived from the uber fantastic tights that Ladybug was supposed to wear for photos. As it happens we took those pictures in the month of August and I didn’t have it in my heart to make her sweat for the sake of a picture for a pattern that might not even be chosen.
Luck was on my side, and little did Amy Singer know it when she chose Mickey for the Spring 2007 issue but she started a fire within me that continues to burn out of control. So here is the third version of Hey Mickey and the best one in my opinion. My little Ladybug is getting to be a young lady but the skirt still suits her. This one was knit for Shokay in Shambala colors Meadow and Dusk. I love the Prep school feel of the way these colors work together!

Hi Jacque! I printed Hey Mickey yesterday. I’ve been really wanting to knit it, to try the pattern, and I have a four year old granddaughter, Amelie. I don’t know if she’d wear it, though, as she is very picky! I am getting close to making it, just ’cause. I think it’s such a sweet skirt, and want to make it for Amie and buy some cool tights to go with it. I really shouldn’t start something new, though. But since when did that stop me! Adorable girlie Ladybug is, in her new Mickey. :O) Hugs to her and babygirl too. Does she still like the little cat? samm

Good Gosh! Your latest version is so cute. And the top matches perfectly. I wonder how long you had to search to find it!?
Gee, its times like this when I wish I had a little girl of my own to dress up. Wait-what am I thinking! Someone slap me!

I have YET to knit Hey Mickey! Shame on me! I love it when a type of project consumes you. I’ve been altering The Dream Swatch Head wrap original pattern for the past 3 months! It has been a no brainer knit because the heat has done something to this brain here! LOL
I love the colors on all of them even the fushsia color.

all your mickey’s are gorgeous - and the ladybug too!
my big gurl is begging for her Mickey, Bounce and Monica and I just want to knit on some small socks. Think I will break down this week and cast something else on!

Thanks guys. We did luck out on the top to match-and that happens so very seldom with me and my knitting. I do love this pattern and I think it is a great tutorial on short rows (especially with the 2 colors) because you can see what is going on, but I am thankful that Cupcake has a way to go before requesting one. I am truly Mickey’d out-whew!

Holy cannoli! I saw this when it debuted in Knitty and thought it was cute (tho’ I was peeved that you put that cheesy 80’s song in my head!) but never got around to trying it. Recently I tried to use up a partial skein of Caron’s Simply Soft from my stash by making a shrug for DD (for some reason she loves this particular yarn). Irritatingly, I was a little short and had to buy a whole new skein to finish said shrug.
I am so psyched to see you used SS to make Hey Mickey! Keeping my fingers crossed I have enough yarn to now use *two* skeins from my stash by making a skirt to match the shrug (w/contrasting pleats from 2nd skein). The shrug is garter st knit side to side so it should actually look like I planned this. *Happy Dance* Thanks for sharing such a fun design. So happy I rediscovered it!
