The Thunder Rolls…

July 26th, 2007 by Jacque

WickedI am the first to admit that I love rainy weather, especially thunderstorms. My kids and my dog are both less enthused with the weather phenomenon than I, but that is to be expected right?  So these pictures look a bit brighter than it actually is but you can see the oncoming darkness through the trees a bit.

Bad weather is on its wayHow can a person not love the weather when surrounded by hundred year old live oaks and Spanish moss? So spooky. You ought to see me at Halloween.

The thunder is rumbling a few miles off so I would guess that by the time I post this we will be in full-on storm mode. I will be relocating yarn baskets to accommodate the 75 pound figure of my deathly scared dog. If I’m really lucky I may be able to convince ladybug “go camping” in her tent and watch a movie. Have I ever mentioned that we keep a tent up in her room which Memphis has taken to sleeping in at night? So maybe she, Memphis, and a few milk-bones can buy me some good knitting time.

Of course the gloom means indoor flash photography that leaves a lot to be desired artistically. I really love the no finishing factor of seamless garments, but they tend to dreg my spirits down somewhat  because I am a naturally impatient soul. when I knit garments that require seaming I feel a sense of accomplishment with each piece that I finish. Generally seaming is something I look forward to because it is the “coming together” stage of the project that I associate with the finish line.

Pattern in progressSo the hoodie/cardi thing is moving (albeit slowly) but I am about halfway through the increases in the yoke section. It doesn’t look like much crammed on the needles like it is, but then what ever does right? If I can manage to tear myself away from my laundry (sounds riveting, no?) I may be able to complete the increase section and move onto the body.

Those trees with the spanish moss - they are just incredible.

I totally understand the progress motivation factor - my little cardi project was tiny, but seamless and the yoke seemed to take forever (though that may have had something to do with the fact that I had to rip & reknit!)

    I’m liking the color-blocking - looks great!!

My husband loves Spanish moss so much that he ordered some on Ebay, believe it or not. We got it and hung it on our oak trees, but we just don’t have enough humidity for it to thrive very well. It’s okay, but not like back East. He’s always out misting it. Sheesh!

Wow! Those trees are wonderful! You live in a beautiful spot! Poor Memphis. Our dogs can empathize with the storm terror. I’m working on a sweater for me, yeah, me! I decided to do it circularly and round and round we go for fifteen inches or so. :O) But I can do it without thinking or even looking, so sometimes it’s a good project. Still haven’t finished turning the heel of the SS, though. Maybe tonight….. Hope all is well with you! samm

I love storms. I can’t imagine anyone not liking them. Although I have been through a couple of storms that might have change my mind. Mississippi storms are something to be admired sometimes and feared the next.

I love watching the storms roll in. So inspiring. I am discovering the pleasure and ease of seamless knitting. LOVE IT!

I love storms. They’re fun to watch and I like falling asleep to the sounds of rain and thunder.

And those trees are just gorgeous. I like the hangy bits, they make them look kind of spooky.

I’m so curious about the hoodie! Hope you soon will have it finished so we can see it.
    See you soon again!
