So for everyone who sent

March 13th, 2007 by Jacque

So for everyone who sent birthday wishes thanks! I would love to respond to each individually, but blogger hasn’t enabled me to do that yet, or I haven’t figured it out yet (total possibility). As far as the big milestone birthday went, it was good. My family got together for a steak & potatoes dinner followed by yummy cake. I haven’t decided what I want to spend my birthday money on this year. My closet is always wanting a re-vamp come springtime so at least I‘m funded, though I may sneak a few balls of my favorite fiber in for good measure. They count towards the wardrobe anyway, right?

As to aging, I have never been one of those women in front of the mirror searching for grey hairs to tweeze. You know the type…you may even be the type. I have always thought age should be celebrated. There is nothing wrong with being young, but I personally never felt the kind of confidence or peace in my youth that I have started to feel in the past few years.

Of course there are a few hurdles to jump now that I’m no longer a Spring chicky:

THE BOD - Now don’t get me wrong, I would love to have a body like Beyonce, but it ain’t gonna happen so why be sad? I’ve had two beautiful kids and my body shows it. I would rather spend my time knitting than being terrorized by a personal trainer to get the perfect post-cesarean abs. I’m not sure if I want a tummy tuck badly enough to go through another surgery. So about the best that I can do is lose the pounds my doc recommends-Hello treadmill-which will still leave me a tad overweight, but not too bad for my 5′2″ frame. It may not make me , but it should beyonce-fy me enough. (trust me, the booty and rack I was born with.)

GREY HAIR- I have them. Quite a few. No plans to uproot them anytime soon. always heard if you pull one two grow back in it’s place. Yikes! My grandmother who I am guessing is in her late sixties has the same soft black hair as I. Hers only has a fair highlighting of silver. I don’t think it would even qualify as salt and pepper. So see, I’ve still got choices. My brother is a stylist and can keep me looking dark and lovely as long as needs be, or I can accept the divine silver strands for what they are. Each one tells where I’ve been, who I’ve met. Maybe I should think of them as stamps on a passport. Some women look tres chic when they go Au natural. I sure loved Meryl’s faux silver coif in the Prada movie.

I think it’s fabulous Darling. I would so wear my hair this way!

WRINKLES- I haven’t really inspected for wrinkles. I used to roll my eyes as my mom slathered cream on her face in the morning and then at night. I haven’t quite reach a state of alarm over wrinkles, but I will tell you this: 2 days before my birthday I took my little self down to the store for a bottle of Oil of Olay -the original formula. My mom has been using this stuff for most of her life and it clearly does work. More often than not she is confused as my sister, not my mom. (yea for her, sucks to be me especially when I was considered the mom) Also I’ve seen those olay woman who where on Oprah. Y’know the ones. They look forty, but at the end of the show you find out they are actually one hundred and twelve! I am so working the olay. I just hope it’s not too late.

women.gifI saw the young woman. I really had to look for the old lady. Maybe it’s a sign!

Basically I want to be able to say “Hey I’m thirty (40, 50, 60, 70)and I’m proud,” but I want the person I’m saying it to to say,”Damn she looks good for her age.” …and that about covers my aging plan of action.

On a deeper note I was thinking about how far I’ve come personally. I have to say that I am the happiest at this point in life than I ever remember being. It’s not exactly that I have everything in life that I want, because I don’t, but I am happy with what I do have, where I am, and I guess even who I am, and it feels good. My goal is to keep on doing the things that give me or mine joy. So for everyone who said that the fun begins at thirty I believe you.

I am still working on lady E, but no changes since the last post because I am currently working on a design project with this Softee silk yarn I ordered from Deborah at Spin city yarns in Hawaii. The yarn has a gorgeous sheen and is 76% silk 24% rayon. It is thick and thin with fairly long color changes. So here’s the sitch: I can finish the pattern and post it here as a freebie for anyone who might like it or I can finish it and submit it somewhere like Knitty or Magknits. Any ideas? I really need your comments.

Beautiful yarn! And happy late birthday! I turned 30 last August, and I just found my first grey hair yesterday morning. This is fabulous. If it hurries up and goes grey in larger quantities, I can dye everything purple without bleaching or having to pay for highlights! It would be great.

Hey J-Don’t worry about some of the negative comments that you find. You can’t please everyone. Personally, I can’t wait to cast on for my two little girls. As far as things I would like to see more of, definately warm weather items, especially tank tops.Oil of Olay-I think there must be magic in those little bottles!! My mom has been using it as long as I can remember and she looks great. She is often mistaken for my sister and she still gets carded at the casino. I started using it when I turned 25 and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!!Looking forward to Friday - DK

I just turned 29 forever in Jan. I’ve been finding grey hairs since I was 23. I’m fighting them with whatever means necessary! LOL Super Congratulations on the pattern in knitty!! I adore it!

Belated Happy Birthday! I’ll never be older than 15 inside :)About your patterns, I personally loved your Mickey skirt. I think if you have the ability to design and create, you should go ahead and submit the patterns to anyone you think might be interested. If they are picked up it proves *someone* likes them. I think creativity should be widely shared so the uncreative amongst us can bask in the reflected glory!
