Hurry up and wait…

August 9th, 2007 by Jacque

The mystery hoodie is coming along swimmingly. It is almost done in fact, but will have to go on a very short temporary hiatus. I don’t know if I ever mentioned that the yarn I am using was some from my stash that I bought with another project in mind. I knew my yardage for the main color was going to be good, and the contrasting color might be close. Well, about 4 rows from the end the inevitable happened. So I have placed the necessary order and will wait patiently for said yarn to arrive. As it turns out I have made a few last minute changes to the pattern and more of the color is needed so all’s well that ends well.

Opal Grey DK
In the meantime I got some new yarn from handpaintedyarn.com (yes, one of my favorites) and some sparkle to add to it for a lovely wintry project.

This is the DK yarn in opal gray. It is really pretty in person. there are places where the yarn has a slight pinkish tinge and others where the gray has a bit of green.

silver lined crystalThe sparkle I mentioned is about 8,000 size 6 glass seed beads which easily fit DK weight yarn. My other beaded projects have been small and I could use what was available to me at the local craft store. This project is going to require significantly more beads so I looked for an online source.

In my search for size 5 & 6 seed beads (size 5 are very difficult to find but work perfectly with worsted weight yarns which are my favorite) I came across Fire Mountain Gems who offered one of the best deals.

They are knitting up with the yarn to create just the fabric I had envisioned. It is so nice when that happens. The project is destined to be sold here or submitted somewhere depending on what I can get accomplished.

The yarn is wonderful. I love the coolness of the colours, and the beads will be spectacular with them! You’ll be warm in whatever you make with that yarn. :) samm who is still waiting for granddaughter measurements so she can start Mickey!
