Clapotis #1 is almost done!

September 21st, 2006 by Jacque

First on the docket is my Clapotis. This has been an enjoyable and relatively quick knit for me. I am on the decrease section and I can’t wait to make another. I’m very surprised at the size of it since many commented that it would be much smaller made in this particular yarn. The Knitpicks Shimmer in Happy Dance is lovely and oh so soft. I wanted my first clappy to be in double stranded laceweight yarn so it would be lightweight and this one definitely is. There have been some minor spots where the yarn has pooled, but nothing I can’t live with, and certainly not bad enough to go back and redo it. The drape of the alpaca and silk is divine, but I think a good blocking when it is finished will make it even lovelier.

I’m thinking my next Clap will be out of some handyed mohair that my mom has her eye on, or I have some yarn that I suppose I could call vintage since they haven’t made it in years. Anyway it is silk and acrylic DK weight in a tweedy teal color that should make another lovely Clappy. One of those 2 Clappys will be next unless I decide to get started on a pair of fetching for mom, or my Irish Hiking scarf/hat/fetching set. Who knows, maybe I’ll tackle my LMKG legwarmers. Speaking of those legwarmers, the other 2 balls of my Andean silk arrived and you’ll never believe my luck. They were in the same dyelot as the originals I ordered. Oh Happy Day!

We also celebrated Ladybug’s 4th Birthday this past weekend. She got her first big girl bike, a new kitchen, and an easy bake oven just to top off the list. We’ve been eating odd-shaped delicacies ever since. I can’t believe she’s so big. Kids really do grow up too fast, at least too fast for me. One minute you think you cannot possibly stand another day of pregnancy and the next they are celebrating their 4th B’day. On that note there are only 11 days to go until Ladybug’s little sister arrives!

…And of course our little prince could not be left out of the weekend festivities. He found a nice gift bag to occupy while the wrapping paper was still flying. He was reluctant to give up his post but eventually decided it was okay once the coast was clear and everyone else was indulging in birthday cake.
