It’s been a while…

October 17th, 2006 by Jacque

I know, I know…it’s been more than a few days, but as you can imagine Ladybug and Cupcake are keeping me very busy. Anyway, as promised I do have a few knit-related pics to share.
First up are the pair of Fetching that I made for my mom. I had intended to take these with me to the hospital, but in my anticipation I finished them before I left, go figure. I used Knitpicks Merino Style in Storm. Although it is listed as DK, I heard someone saying they use it interchangably as worsted and because my mom’s hands are quite small I thought I’d try it.

I was really pleased with the way they came out and there was a little left over of the one ball, but I have to admit that I didn’t bother with a swatch this time.
The color is a little better in this shot.

Next up is the Irish hiking set I’m working on for me.The story behind this set is that a couple of years ago it actually started snowing here on Christmas eve and didn’t stop until everything was covered in a frosty white blanket. It was the first snow I’ve ever seen in my life. Anyway, the next morning when we went out to play in it and take pics my little family’s cold weather wear left alot to be desired. (I mean please people, it’s not uncommon that we celebrate Christmas in shorts, okay?) So I have these beautiful snowy pics that would have looked like a friggin’J-Crew ad if only we had been decked out in cozy matching scarves and such instead of layered odds and ends. So, after that I decided that I was making everyone in my fam a hat, scarf and mitten set just in case it ever snowed again in our lifetime. I for one am keeping my fingers crossed.

Like the Fetching, I was able to finish the hat the evening before I went to the hospital. What can I say, I knit fast when I’m nervous/excited. I then started the scarf and did one cable repeat that same night, but didn’t touch it again until after I returned home. I am using Knitpicks WOTA in Firecracker Heather which I really love. I am hoping to have enough leftover of the six balls to make a pair of mitts to match. I am all about coordinating don’t ya know!

Anyway the pattern itself is really easy IMO, but I am only able to work a few repeats at any one sitting. It is amazing how busy I’ve become lately, and remarkably it isn’t Cupcake that is keeping me on my toes. Ladybug however is going through a very clingy stage at the moment where she needs me every five minutes or so. I expected her to react to the new baby in some fashion or another and it seems that this in addition to being very protective of her new sis are how she is coping which is okay with me. It could be so much worse. So I’ll keep plugging along on the scarf, trying not to get bored while all that alpaca that I bought is begging me to swatch it. I already have 2 projects on the needles and if I put one down even with the intention of coming back to it I know I never will. Oh well, it must wait it’s turn.

Oh, and I was hoping for some pictures of the family in their “not-cold-weather” clothes, too :)

I can’t believe how much you’ve gotten done! That’s amazing! I can relate to stress-induced knitting frenzy, though. I learned to knit while waiting for my daughter to be born (TWO WEEKS OVERDUE!), and I started and finished an entire sweater during those two stressful weeks.
